The 5th team in our #SummerOfBaseball series is the Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

The Generals, who play in the Southern League really upped their game with the ball they sent in – an official Southern League ball signed by D.J. Peterson, who was the Mariners 1st round pick (12th overall) in the 2013 MLB draft, the Mariners #2 prospect, and the #41 prospect in MLB. Peterson had a monster 2014 campaign which was split between High-A High Desert and Jackson, where he hit .297 with 31 HR and 111 RBI.

The Generals were founded in 1998 and were previously known as the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx until taking their current moniker for the 2011 season. From 1998-2006, they were affiliated with the Chicago Cubs before their current affiliation with the Mariners since 2007. They play their home games at The Ballpark at Jackson (known as Pringles Park from 1998-2012), which has seating capacity for approximately 6,000 fans.

Over the years, some pretty impressive names have played for the Generals (and Diamond Jaxx), including Kyle Farnsworth, Jose Molina, Hee-Seop Choi, Eric Hinske, Corey Patterson, Carlos Zambrano, Mark Prior, Todd Wellemeyer, Ronny Cedeno, Ricky Nolasco, Sean Marshall, David Aardsma, Casey McGehee, Jerry Blevins, Doug Fister, Michael Saunders, Luis Valbuena, Anthony Varvaro, Dustin Ackley, Nick Franklin, Michael Pineda, Kyle Seager, Roenis Elias, and Hector Noesi.

Former Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley was the skipper in 1998 and 1999.

Thank you Generals for participating in #SummerOfBaseball and for sending in the autographed D.J. Peterson ball!
