Stepping up to the plate as the 6th team in our #SummerOfBaseball Series is the Class A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in the Midwest League – the Dayton Dragons.

The Dragons are one of the most popular teams in all of the minor leagues and hold the North American sellout streak for pro sports franchises. The club sold out its 1,000th straight game in 2014 and average well over 8,000 fans per game. Sports Illustrated had also previously named the team one of the top ten hottest tickets in all of professional sports.

Many notable Major Leaguers have gone through Dayton on their way to the Show, including Austin Kearns, Adam Dunn, Wily Mo Pena, Edwin Encarnacion, Joey Votto, Homer Bailey, Johnny Cueto, Jay Bruce, Devin Mesoraco, Todd Frazier, and Billy Hamilton.

They play their home games at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio which opened in 2000 with Johnny Bench catching the ceremonial first pitch. The team is so popular, they have 25 games broadcast on the local CBS affiliate, WHIO-TV.

The Dragons have some pretty impressive attendance figures over the last decade:
2014 – 573,709 fans
2013 – 579,946
2012 – 588,689
2011 – 571,886
2010 – 597,433
2009 – 586,193
2008 – 586,417
2007 – 585,348
2006 – 582,903
2005 – 572,053

The Dragons were great enough to send up a team logo ball for our #SummerOfBaseball series.  Look at that logo pop!
