After Three Starts – Let’s Not Panic With Wheeler

After three starts, Zack Wheeler is 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA.   He’s walked 10 batters and struck out 13.  Opposing batters are hitting .233 against him with a 1.50 WHIP.

Let’s not hit the Panic Button.

Again, he’s a kid.  He’s going to have growing pains.

Let him grow.  Let him learn on this level.  Don’t boo him.  Let’s see what he becomes.

If he doesn’t eventually get it together (like many before him have, and many after him will), then the gloves can come off.

Remember, he’s a rookie.  R-O-O-K-I-E.  He’s going to get roughed up.  He’s going to have some bad outings.  If he gets through it, that will make him into a pitcher that will be a force for years.

Or he’ll be another pitcher that didn’t reach his potential.

Give him time.
