Daniel Murphy saw the tweet announcing that the team had sent Greg Burke to the minors and that Carlos Torres was being called up from Las Vegas.
“I’ll have to give the chap a welcome when he arrives,” Daniel said to himself.
When Carlos Torres arrived the next morning, Daniel (being the hard working Doubles Hitting Machine that he is) was already at the park getting in his morning workout. He walked over to Carlos and extended his hand.
“Welcome aboard,” Daniel said.
“Glad to be here,” Carlos said. “Any advice for the new guy?”
“Just don’t give up many runs,” Daniel said. “And stay away from Matt Harvey on days when he’s starting.”
“Thanks for the advice,” Carlos said.
“You’re welcome,” Daniel said.
Daniel went back to his workout when he had another thought – Carlos should get a warm, friendly greeting from the Superhero as well. Daniel reached into his gym bag, pulled out the orange and blue Superhero costume, and moments later was heading off in the direction of the new arrival, the cape with the large number twenty eight trailing behind.
“Good morning, Carlos,” Daniel said.
Carlos turned and screamed when he saw the masked Superhero. “Somebody help! I’m being robbed!”
“I’m not here to hurt you,” Daniel said. “I’m a Superhero.”
“Somebody help me!” Carlos screamed.
Moments later, Q came bursting into the room, clad in his green crime fighting costume.
“What seems to be the problem here?” Q said.
“It’s Q!” Carlos said. “Thank goodness you’re here! I heard you had made your way to New York!”
“Calm down, Carlos,” Q said. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m being robbed!” Carlos said, pointing to Daniel.
“By him?” Q said. “That’s just the Superhero.”
“The who?” Carlos said.
“That’s the Superhero,” Q said. “You know, like me, but just not as good looking.”
“Hey!!!” Daniel said.
“Are you sure?” Carlos said. “I’ve never heard of him.”
“You’ve never heard of me?” Daniel said.
“He’s quite harmless,” Q said. “Nothing to worry about.”
“Harmless?” Daniel said.
“Are you sure?” Carlos said. “He snuck up on me and gave me quite a fright.”
“Did you do that, Superhero?” Q asked.
“I only wanted to say hello and welcome Carlos,” Daniel said sadly.
“Well, next time, maybe you’ll remember that it’s not always good to sneak up on someone, especially when you’re wearing a mask.” Q said.
“Thank you, Q! You’ve saved the day!” Carlos said. “I’m so happy to see you here in New York!”
“You’re welcome, Carlos,” Q said. It’s good to see you again as well.”
As Carlos and Q chit-chatted, Daniel Murphy quietly walked away. “So much for the warm greeting,” he said to himself.
