Daniel Murphy: Superhero – Episode 31

The team charter flight was in the air and on its way to New York for opening day on Monday.  When they had reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the fasten seat belt light turned off and the drink and snack cart was about to make its rounds.

Before long, Daniel Murphy, who was sitting toward the back of the plane heard a terrible sound from the front.

“On no!  There are no peanuts!”

The cry of distress came from Terry Collins.

My manager needs me! Daniel thought to himself.

He looked around to make sure no one was watching. He quickly and quietly reached under his seat and pulled out his gym bag that he was using as his carry on.  He discreetly got up and made his way to the tiny airplane bathroom.

“Crap,” Daniel said under his breath when he discovered it was locked.  “Hey!” he said, knocking on the door.  “Hurry up, I need to get in there!”

“Hold your horses, muchacho!” he heard from inside.  It was Jordany Valdespin.

Daniel stood outside, tapping his foot impatiently.  From the front of the plane, he could hear Terry Collins becoming more and more distressed.  Finally, Jordany opened the door and came out.

“Sorry about the smell, bro.  I can’t light a match on a plane.”

The smell coming from the tiny bathroom was overwhelming.  Tears quickly came to Daniel’s eyes.  Your manager needs you, he thought to himself.  He took a deep breath and went into the bathroom, braving the noxious fumes.

Moments later, the slightly green Superhero came rushing out of the bathroom, clad in his orange and blue Superhero costume.  He made his way down the isle toward the front, his cape with the large number 28 on the back trailing behind.

“Have no fear, Mr. Collins.  The Superhero is here!”

“Superhero, am I ever glad to see you!” Terry said.  “They forgot to pack the peanuts!  How can they expect me to fly to New York without peanuts!”

“I may be able to be of assistance,” Daniel said.  He reached into his cape and pulled out a pack of Planters.  “Will this help?”

Terry’s face brightened.  “Yes!  Thank you Superhero!”

“No need to thank me, Mr. Collins.  I’m just glad to be able to help.”

While the collective cheer went up throughout the plane, Daniel quickly made his way back down the aisle and ducked into the bathroom before anyone could get a good look at him.
